JOINING the world of wrestling was a life-changing event for Canning Vale Contours trainer Emma Chalmers, and one that might not have happened if it wasn’t for her friends’ interest in professional wrestling.

Chalmers, who has spent several years at the top of national competition in freestyle wrestling, initially started her career by attending a mixed martial arts course with a friend.

“My friends were really into WWE wrestling and they took me along to one of these classes,” she said.

“I started with mixed martial arts at Gosnells PCYC, then I realised freestyle wrestling was what I really loved.”

The focus on wrestling and fitness changed other aspects of her life.

“I actually got into fitness instruction at Tafe after the wrestling,” Chalmers said.

“The health change was amazing – I loved having the drive, and getting healthy.”

Chalmers went to Sydney for the nationals on March 7, winning bronze, after two years holding the gold. She also competed in the Oceania competition on February 28, and wants to gain more exposure to international competition. “I’m doing well but want to take it to another level,” she said.

Emma is a very capable freestyle wrestler and i believe she has so much potential and talent. I wish her all the best in the future and i'm sure she will continue to do great things. For the limited amount of training opportunities and funding she has accomplished a great deal and i have absolutely no doubt she will continue to do so.
