CYCLING to work, downsizing his car and eating less red meat are all part of Maylands resident Julian Ilich’s contribution to creating a greener future.

Mr Ilich is the co-founder and chief executive of daysofchange. org.

Saturday, May 1 is the launch of the concept, which aims to encourage as many people as possible around the state to make small changes to the way they do things by taking a pledge card.

The cards outline 30 different actions that people can take to reduce their environmental impact.

People then register the changes they will make online.

Mr Ilich, who works as an engineer, said he wanted to start the program to change the way the world was heading.

“I would like to see all Perth organisations register as ambassadors in the program, and encourage their employees to take steps to become more sustainable both at home and in the workplace,” he said.

He has made changes to his own living habits from the pledge card, such as installing external shading on his house to keep it cool in summer.

“Some of the changes I have made personally were not hard to do at all and include simple things that everyone can manage,” he said.

Other changes on the card include reducing showering time to four minutes a day and drying clothes on the clothesline rather than the dryer.
