THE forecast of a possible shower did not deter a record number of people competing in this Sunday’s City to Surf.
More than
36,800 people, a 20 per cent increase on last year, assembled at the St George’s Terrace start
line. Olympic gold medallist Cathy Freeman addressed the crowd and officially
started the race.
Alicia
Hallett and Chris de Boer won the women’s and men’s 4km events and Paul Nunnari
was first over the line in the 11km wheelchair event.
Linda
Spencer finished the 12km run in just under 43 minutes and Martin Dent was
first in the men’s section.
Claire
Goldsmith and Gemechu Woyecha were first in the women’s and men’s half-marathons.
