GWELUP resident Jo Gatland is doing her bit for the McGrath Foundation by hosting Butterfly Tea Parties this month.

A greeting card seller with Phoenix Trading, Ms Gatland has hosted parties in Kingsley and Gwelup for 40 local mums.

Phoenix Trading recently released a Butterfly Cupcakes charity card in conjunction with the McGrath Foundation and $1 from cards sales goes to the foundation – sales have already topped 35,000.

Traders across the country like Ms Gatland were encouraged to host tea parties during August to help raise more funds for the cause.

Ms Gatland said she had a target of collecting $400 for the foundation selling butterfly cards, hosting tea parties and running an auction.

“It’s been a really good response from local business, with lots of people putting their hand up to be a part of it,” she said.

“The tea parties are a fun social environment and a great way to get the word out there about breast cancer awareness – that’s what the foundation is all about.”

Co-founded by Jane McGrath – late wife of cricketing great Glenn McGrath – the foundation funds breast care nurses across Australia and increases breast cancer awareness among young women.

The Bbar Cafe at Gwelup Plaza will host a Butterfly Tea Party on Thursday from 9.30am to 11am, with part proceeds of coffee and muffin sales going to the foundation. Visit www. gofundraise.com.au/gatlandj to donate.
